Home Insurance Going Up, and Up, and...Up

You may have noticed that home insurance rates are rising faster than long-time Florida residents are used to, at least for the past decade. There are lots of reasons why this is happening, and it's not just inflation and natural disasters (thought those aren't helping).

Most people don't understand that they're supposed to let their insurance company know when they leave their homes for an extended period. Some insurers will deny coverage if there's a disaster and you've not let them know (explicitly) that your home will be unoccupied for certain time frames (consult your contract of insurance, or give your producer a call for more details.) Most people whose Florida homes are winter or vacation getaways know this already, which is why they hire someone like "My Guy" to help them look after their homes while they're away.
